In springtime, the white yulan magnolia is China’s quintessential seasonal flower. In bloom, its scent is gently tantalizing; its blossoms are classically beautiful. Often planted exclusively in imperial palaces, temples, and residences of the affluent, the flower denotes luck and the power of affluence. In 2010, LIULI glass artists combined the studio’s signature Pate-de-Verre casting method with mouth-blowing techniques to create this collection of “bao ping” (or treasure vases). Symbolizing exuberant wealth, elegance, and nobility, the yulan vase in particular shows the transformation of goldfish and flower. It flows in dream-like patterns, revealing a metamorphosis of beauty and grace.
