Unlike the other more boldly expressive pieces in the “Emergence of the Dragon” collection, “Eternal Peace Baoping” expresses the humble and peacefully strong spirit of the “wood element” dragon. Its demeanor is a simple and elegant statement: Be gentle, but be resolute. Find balance, and fortune will come. With one foot in classic Chinese literature and the other in expressionism, this design has the lavish yet modest motifs of a true “wood” dragon. Tracing the curves and lines of the design, one can also notice the “curly grass” motifs in similar, more traditional “wood” dragon pieces. LIULI craftsmen combine the hard efforts of mouth-blown vase making with the studio’s signature pate-de-verre casting. Tireless attempts finally result in a spirit that is true to the surprisingly powerful nature of a dragon—an element or force of nature.
