The story of this artwork extends thousands of years back in history, preserved quietly in the famed Dunhuang grottoes along the Silk Road in China’s Gobi Desert. The bodhisattva Guanyin of a thousand arms and eyes is so named for her ability to reach into the hearts of countless people around the world. This is the story of compassion so rare that it moved LIULI artist and founder Loretta H. Yang to sculpt a 3-meter statue of Guanyin over the course of ten years. The lessons of kindness and compassion echo Yang’s philosophies on art being a medium of spirituality. As such, her Guanyins have been brought to the world stage and exhibited in dozens of institutions. |
